Notes
Henry R
Plomer,
borne
13th December 1856 Guernsey - died 20th August 1928 London
Henry
Plomer
used name groups to cope with multiple spellings, these have been
retained but are not always obvious. In the period 1396-1558
some
surnames had a prefix (a, at, att, atte, ap) these he
included
after the forename. i.e. Bere, Henry a - indexed as Henry a'Bere
Double dates have been removed, during the
period covered by this database all years begin on 25th March and end
on 24th March, not 31st December
When
Plomer indexed the information the various series of documents had no
common root
reference. Now all Probate Records of Canterbury
(PRC) are
listed under the common
series of PRC numbers, those included in this index are shown
below with their Plomer prefix
PRC 3 Archdeaconry Court Act. books (A.Act.) - Volumes since renumbered
before filming
PRC 16 Archdeaconry and Consistory Office Copy wills (O.C.) before 1559
PRC 17 Archdeaconry Registered wills (A.)
PRC 22 Consistory Court Act. books (C.Act.)
PRC 31 Consistory Court Office Copy wills (O.C.) after 1558
PRC 32 Consistory Court Registered wills (C.)
PRC 33 Wingham Peculiar Wills (W.) - Court closed 1547
Abbreviations
- AD Administration, NU Nuncupative will, W. A. S.
Will, Attestation, Sentence, AWW - Administration
with Will. I or Inv - Inventory.
O.C.
Copies in Part 1 - All the
Original wills included in Plomer part 1 are filed in the DCb/PRC16
series for both the Archdeaconry (ADC) and Consistory Courts (CCC).
Consistory court original wills DCb/PRC31 start in
1559. By
1920 when Plomer completed his index of the Civil
War Wills 1640-1650, the Office Copy Wills were numbered in the 2
separate series ADC. & CCC but they still had a unique
identifying
No. within the year by year series.
We
have done
all we can to minimize errors in transcribing Plomer's
original into our database, but in 28,500 entries errors are
inevitable. We have integrated
Plomer's Addenda & Corrigenda into the database and corrected
any
original errors found during the transcription. Some long
fields
have been edited to bring pages to a reasonable width, the
information removed relates to status/profession, a few alternative
name
spellings. In addition long place names have also
been
abbreviated. The
deleted information is available in the will. If
you find
any errors,
and
have found the correction, please advise us so that the database can
be corrected.
