HASTED PRIZE
£3000
The Kent Archaeological Society (KAS) awards the biennial Hasted Prize
for the best master’s or doctoral thesis from any institution of higher
education on some aspect of the history or archaeology of the County of
Kent (including those parts of the Ancient County now included within
London). The first award was made in September 2007.
Submissions for the 2013 Prize must be submitted by 31 May 2013.
The prize totals £3000 and is awarded in two parts: £1,000 goes
directly to the successful author; the other £2,000 is held by the
Society and is available to assist towards the cost of publishing the
thesis when necessary revisions have been made. The prize aims to
reward students working on the history and archaeology of the County,
and also to help promote publication of books that advance scholarly
knowledge of Kent’s past. The KAS will assist the successful
author in finding a press to publish the work. The KAS would
expect that the published volume would acknowledge the Hasted Prize and
the role of the Society in helping to fund publication. The
Society will also consider for publication in Archaeologia Cantiana an
article based on the successful thesis.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The KAS will consider for the second Hasted Prize those theses that
have been successfully examined during the period 1 May 2011 to 31 May
2013. Theses must be submitted BOTH in a bound copy and in
electronic form as a Word document, accompanied by a letter of
recommendation from the thesis supervisor together with the names and
the institutions of the examiners of the thesis. The bound copies
of the theses will not be returned, but placed in the KAS
library. All candidates for the Prize will be notified of the
judges’ decision within three calendar months.
