The Research Archive of COLIN FLIGHT
Colin Flight was born in London (1943) but grew up in Rochester and Chatham (1951–65, not counting a number of brief visits to Cambridge in 1961–4). He joined the KAS in 1960. Apart from some
bare mentions of his name in excavation reports by Peter Tester (1962, 1966), his first appearance in 'Archaeologia Cantiana' was as the nominal co-author of an article published in volume 83 (1969). Some sections of that paper were indeed drafted by him; but most of the writing plus all of the work of assembling the paper was done by Arthur Harrison – a good teacher who became a good friend of his. Peter Tester (1921–1994) and Arthur Harrison (1912–1998) were, both then and later, the people in Kent to whose encouragement and to whose example he owed the most. 

He is the author of four book-length publications. 'The bishops and monks of Rochester' was published by the KAS in 1997, as the sixth (and seemingly the final) volume in their Monograph Series. A short book about the early history of Rochester bridge was published, also in 1997, by British Archaeological Reports. 'The survey of the whole of England' (BAR, British Series 405, 2006) is a study of the documentation ('Domesday Book' and the rest) resulting from the survey of the kingdom conducted in 1086.VIEW    His latest book – not a sequel so much as a complement to the third one – has just been published. Some of the files which have helped in the writing of these books are made available below, in the hope that they may prove useful to other people. Anyone who wishes to is welcome to download them, or to copy any parts of them; but it needs to be understood that they are roughwork, not finished pieces. Let the user beware.
