The collections of printed material have grown steadily since the foundation of the Society in the 19th century. Since that time, many important scholars and members have presented copies of their works, and the Society has itself purchased numerous works which reflect its work and interests. Although the collections are not totally inclusive, they do provide a valuable basis on which to pursue researches, and most of the standard works are present. The catalogue forms a simple tool which enables an approach to the library stock on site, or from a distance, but to obtain full value from this important resource, a personal visit is strongly recommended.
